VILLASIS, Pangasinan , Philippines  – Two barangay captains each received a “surprise gift” from an unknown person delivered right at their doorstep – white coffins.

Barangay captains Teofilo Salazar Jr. and Leonardo Ruiz of Puelay and Amamperez, respectively, here woke up Sunday with the white coffins brought in their residences with their respective names and addresses written on the coffins and unloaded about 30 minutes apart dawn Sunday by a passenger jeepney.

Mayor Nonato Abrenica told The STAR yesterday that, “It is very obvious who is behind this move meant to scare our leaders.” But he admitted they had no solid evidence yet against the perpetrators.

Abrenica’s wife, Dita Abrenica, is running for mayor in their town against retired police deputy director general Ismael Rafanan and two other “token” candidates.
