CCTN: TV network from Cebu to the world!
Last Tuesday, we huffed over to the Archbishop’s Palace for the signing of a memorandum of agreement between the Catholic Cable Television Network (CCTN) INTV and Cable Boss, which would now carry the signal of CCTN to all the cable areas that Cable Boss is operating. That means the first and the only purely Cebuano (Binisaya) Television Network in the world that gives you talk shows and drama and comedy entertainment programs about Cebuano culture using the Cebuano language can now be seen through areas where you can also see the famous cable TV programs like CNN, ESPN, Cinemax and HBO movies through AsiaSat 3S.
No less than his eminence Ricardo Cardinal Vidal signed this agreement with Nonito “Tatay Dodong” Chua, Timothy Bautista, Mario Parel of Cable Boss. When CCTN opened up four years ago I had two not one, but two television shows entitled, “Traffic Hour” and “Our Journey of Faith.” I turned over the Traffic Hour because of time constraints while we had to stop our TV program on apologetics because our mainstay priest, Fr. Lucas Inoc was given a new job as Parish Priest of Tuburan. But I’m glad that CCTN now has new programs, from Ricky Poca’s morning show “Hello Cebu Maayong Buntag Pinoy” or Manny Rabacal’s “Bullet Headlines” and a lot of telenovelas that you can only see and hear in Binisaya! More power to CCTN, which can be seen from

We wrote last Monday that we would inform you of the results of the Sta. Lucia Golf Tour that was held in
“Mr. Garcia (the rules chairman of Rancho Palos) claims that the Tournament Committee had erred in declaring Alta Vista as the over-all team champion because it is impossible for any club to achieve 51 over-all points. He further stressed that even if a club wins in all three groups counted for their over-all score, they can only make 45 points since the top team can only make 15 points. Upon review of the Tournament Committee, it has been determined that Mr. Antonio Ocampo, Sta. Lucia Tour Tournament Director, committed an error by getting the top 8 in each group instead of getting the top team in each group for each club.”
Hence this is the “corrected” Club Over-all Points & Rankings show that
At the end of the letter, it says “We truly apologize for this incident and trust that Alta Vista will support the decision with the spirit that has bound the competitors of the Sta. Lucia Tour together throughout these years. Thank you and we hope for your kind understanding.”
I was with the Alta Vista Golf Team when we were declared the Over-all winner that brought all the 53 Alta Vista members into a wild frenzy, rushing into the stage for the victory photo ops. It turned out to be a photo opps! While I don’t really know how the Alta Vista members would react to this final report. I’m sure they would accept it with a heavy heart. But let me just say it very clearly that the Sta. Lucia organizers goofed big time! It was the first since the year 2000 that the Sta. Lucia Golf Tour held a tournament in a foreign country and bang someone goofed! Clearly there was no check and balance in counting those scores.
On the plane back to Cebu, the sentiments of most Cebu members was, this tournament was a team effort, why then were the top eight not counted? Why call it a team tournament when they don’t count the team? Another friend suggested that golf rules are quite strict… if you wrote the wrong score on your scorecard plus or minus, you could be disqualified. But can we disqualify the organizer? I dare say that the Sta. Lucia Golf Tour officials should do more than just a simple apology because the success of next year’s annual golf tour might just depend on it!
