US state of Texas recruiting 800 Filipino teachers

Some 800 Filipino teachers are now being recruited for the US state of Texas alone. Filipinos currently rank among the highest in America’s search and recruitment of grade school and high school teachers.

To fill this growing vacuum, JS Contractor Inc. (JSC) and Texas-based Omni Consortium Inc./Multicultural Professional Limited Liability Co. (Omni/MPLLC) are inviting Filipino teachers to take the Functional Academic Skills Test (FAST), one of several qualifying exams for US professional educators, in Manila and Cebu this October.

FAST is one of the state of Texas’ qualifying exams for professional educators. Applicants can attend orientation sessions in Manila on Sept. 21 and 22, 9 a.m., at JSC Manila.

Over 50 percent of Filipino teachers who have previously taken FAST have passed. Review classes will be held on Oct. 5. Applicants must have a BA or BS degree from any accredited college or university, a GPA of 2.5 and at least two years of teaching or tutorial experience.

Teachers who pass the FAST exam and succeeding interviews with Texas school district officials will be processed for working visas. Starting salaries are at an average of $36,000 per annum.

Teachers will be contracted to teach elementary and secondary schools in special subjects like Math, Science, Special Education and Reading. An additional benefit is the exemption from paying income taxes on the first two years of their employment.
