Adobo downs 9 NAIA workers
MANILA, Philippines - At least nine employees assigned to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA-3) fell ill after buying chicken liver and egg adobo from an ambulant vendor before noon yesterday.
Sources said six security guards, a janitor and two airline employees were first taken to the NAIA medical clinic for vomiting.
The nine bought the adobo from the vendor, who had been selling cooked food to NAIA-3 employees for at least two years, but started to vomit and experience stomach pain two hours after eating it.
Three were given dextrose at the NAIA clinic while the airline employees were reportedly brought to Premier Hospital, the institution accredited by their firm.
Manila International Airport Authority general manager Ed Monreal ordered an investigation and advised employees to eat at the employees’ canteen at the basement.
He said he will ask the managers of other NAIA terminals if they will still allow ambulant vendors on the premises.
