Makati reroutes traffic for anti-‘pork’ rally

MANILA, Philippines - Ayala Avenue and Paseo de Roxas will be closed for a protest rally against the pork barrel tomorrow at Makati City’s central business district (CBD), the city government’s public safety department (PSD) announced yesterday.

The stretch of Paseo de Roxas, from Ayala Avenue to Sedeño street, will be closed to traffic starting at 10 a.m. to allow organizers to set up a stage in front of the statue of slain former senator Benigno Aquino Jr., PSD director Hermenegildo San Miguel said.

At 2 p.m. onwards, both lanes of Ayala Avenue – from Makati Ave­nue up to Herrera street – will also be closed to traffic for the “Million People March @ Ayala.” The rally is expected to end at around 8 p.m.

Based on a traffic advisory issued by the PSD, public utility buses from EDSA shall turn right on Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue toward their destination or turn right on Ayala Avenue, right on Makati Avenue, and left on Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue toward their destination. 

All buses coming from the South Luzon Expressway, Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue and Pasay City shall take Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue and turn left on EDSA toward their destination.

Meanwhile, public utility jeepneys and light vehicles from J.P. Rizal street shall make a right turn on Makati Ave­nue, right on Paseo de Roxas, right on Villar street, left on E.P. Leviste street, left on V.A. Rufino street, then right on Ayala Avenue and proceed to their destination.

Vehicles from Washington street shall take a right turn on Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue, right on Ayala Avenue, right on Salcedo street, left on Benavidez street toward Esperanza street, right on Makati Avenue, right on Arnaiz Avenue, right on Paseo de Roxas, left on Dela Rosa street, right on Salcedo street, then left on Ayala Avenue toward their destination.

All vehicles from McKinley Road going toward the CBD or Legaspi Village shall take Arnaiz Avenue and turn right on Paseo de Roxas toward their destination and vice versa. Motorists bound for Salcedo Village will be allowed to enter Ayala Avenue then make a right turn on Apartment Ridge, left on Sta. Potenciana and another left on Paseo de Roxas toward their destination.
