Bus driver foils robbery on EDSA

Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A bus driver, who was trying to alert authorities to an ongoing heist in his vehicle, was attacked by the three robbers along EDSA in Quezon City before dawn Friday.

Because of the bus driver’s efforts to alert authorities of the heist, the three armed suspects were only able to get a cell phone worth P5,000 from a passenger, said Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Senior Superintendent Richard Albano.

Menases Perran, 43, had to be confined in a hospital for a stab wound in the arm following the robbery Friday in Barangay Bagong Pagasa.

A report from the QCPD Station 2 stated that Perran drove a Baclaran Metro Link (PWH 191) bound for Caloocan City. The robbery happened at past 2 a.m. in front of the Vetris North Construction building on EDSA’s northbound lane.

The three unidentified men posed as passengers and suddenly announced the robbery, causing panic among the other passengers.

Upon seeing personnel of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority nearby, Perran honked his car horn.

The sound unnerved the robbers, one of whom walked up to Perran and stabbed him in the right arm before jumping off the bus along with his two accomplices, carrying the cell phone they had stolen.
