MIAA allots P120 million to upgrade NAIA Terminal 1

- Rudy Santos -

MANILA, Philippines -  The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) set aside some P120 million for the phase 1 improvement of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 facilities that includes the ceiling, flooring arrival and departure and the expansion of the arrival movement area.

MIAA general manager Jose Honrado said that part of the P120 million is to move the seven banks located at the customs arrival area to the lobby to make the passengers movement area much wider.

We already informed the banks and they agreed on it Honrado told The Star.

Meanwhile, NAIA Terminal 1 manager Dante Basanta said that this improvement now being done at the Terminal 1 is part of the phase one, and the major renovation will come on August 2011 and expected to be finish on January 2012.

Basanta said that he was given by Honrado an instruction to see to it that the improvement is really done according to the architectural design we submitted to the contractor.

He also said that some international airlines express willingness to transfer to NAIA Terminal 3 but others want to stay at Terminal 1 as long as improvements will be done for the safety of all passengers while inside the terminal.

Basanta also said that Honrado wanted the NAIA Terminal 1 to become a modern airport in the next few years as he visualize a multi level parking, walkalator and bridge way from arrival to the parking area and most of all the creation of a people’s park located at the Parking A fronting the Terminal 1.
