Navotas intensifies campaign vs water-borne diseases

MANILA, Philippines - The city government of Navotas has intensified the campaign against the spread of dengue and other waterborne diseases most prevalent during the rainy season.

Outgoing Mayor Toby Tiangco said the rainy day health alert campaign will involve all sectors, especially the schools.

Dr. Liberty Domingo, City Health Officer and head of the anti-dengue team, is expected to come up with a month-long campaign in cooperation with the Dengue Awareness Month program of the Department of Health (DOH). 

Activities include a citywide information dissemination drive on how to fight dengue, fogging operation in public and private schools, declogging and cleaning operations on all esteros, canals, and waterways, distribution of information materials which contains information on how to fight dengue and activation of the Barangay Anti-Dengue Team to monitor and coordinate health reports from 14 barangays.

Tiangco stressed that the spread of diseases can be avoided with proper information and awareness. He renewed his call for city residents to do their share in preventing the spread of dengue fever in Navotas.

The outgoing mayor also reminded all city officials, employees and residents to do their share and participate in the simultaneous clean-up drive by the City’s street sweepers being held daily from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
