Manila cop beaten up in Mandaluyong
MANILA, Philippines - A Manila policeman is now fighting for his life at a hospital after he was beaten up by a group of men while chasing two stabbing suspects in Mandaluyong City yesterday.
PO1 Glenn Bolilan, 33, assigned at the District Mobile Force of the Manila Police District sustained stab wounds in different parts of the body. Bolilan, too, was hit by by pieces of stones in the head.
Senior Superintendent Carlos de Sagun, Mandaluyong City police chief said they are now conducting follow-up operations to get the suspects in the manhandling of Bolilan.
Bolilan and his companions, Jessie Conde, Efren Pangyarihan and a certain Gio were on their way home after a drinking session at the house of a certain Leo Sacolo in Barangay Barangka Drive at about 12:30 a.m. yesterday.
The foursome met two men who uttered words that they are being feared in the said barangay.
De Sagun said Pangyarihan reportedly asked the duo who they were but suddenly one of the two men pulled out a fan knife and lunged at the latter but missed.
Bolilan intervened while at the same time introducing himself as a Manila policeman prompting the two men to escape. Bolilan ran after them.
Bolilan was cornered along Kayumanggi St., in Barangay Barangka Drive and before he could react he was ganged up by bystanders.
Bolilan was saved from further harm by responding barangay officials who rushed him to the hospital.
