NPD cops nab carjackers

- Pete Laude -

Police arrested last Friday two alleged members of a carjack gang preying on motorcycle riders in Malabon City.

Superintendent Reynaldo Orante, Northern Police District intelligence unit chief, identified the suspects as Ericson Soriano, 27, and a 17-year-old boy whose identity was withheld because he is a minor. Both suspects are residents of Barangay Muzon in Malabon.

Police seized from the suspects a black Suzuki motorcycle with license plate NH 1845 owned by businessman Delson Pascual, 29.

Police Officer 2 Enrique Pangan said that at least three armed men forcibly took from Pascual his motorcycle at the Sto. Nino Bridge in Barangay Niugan at around 6:30 p.m.

Pangan said when Pascual resisted the suspects carried him and threw him from the bridge into the murky waters of the river. The victim was later rescued by bystanders.

Two hours later, Orante’s men led by Senior Police Officer 2 Enrique de Jesus, intercepted Soriano and the boy while riding the stolen motorcycle along Letre Road.

In a related development, Malabon policemen also arrested in Barangay Longos last Thursday three murder suspects Ranie Arcilla, 19, Macmac Cajimet, 20, and Arnold Mallari, 24.

Senior Superintendent Rafael Santiago Jr., NPD investigation division chief, said the three suspects conspired in the killing of Sonny Ban de Mate in Navotas in July last year.

According to Senior Police Officer 1 Aloysius Bobis the suspects are known toughies in their area.

Bobis said that Mallari was released from prison for theft only last March while Arcilla is an alleged drug user.

The three are members of 7-BG gang, which is reportedly involved in a number of robbery incidents in Malabon City and its adjacent cities.
