NAIA passes civil aviation security audit

- Sandy Araneta -
The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has passed another security audit conducted by a global aviation authority, following a passing mark from an American aviation organization last month.

"Overall, the auditors said the Philippines has substantially complied with all the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) audit team. That is the good news. We passed the ICAO security audit," Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Edgardo Manda said during a press conference held at the MIAA Board Room, MIAA Administration Building, NAIA complex.

The ICAO, a group based in Canada, is a global organization under the United Nations.

A four-man audit team from ICAO have visited the NAIA from June 7 to 17 to conduct a security audit of the country’s premier airport. The team is made up of Canadians Joseph Gastonguay, aviation security audit team leader, John Getty, certified aviation security auditor; Korean national Kwang Eui Yoo, certified aviation security auditor; and Hong Kong national Matthew Ip, also a certified aviation security auditor.

Among the ICAO audit program requirements for the Philippine government are National Civil Aviation Security Program, National Aviation Security Committee and National Civil Aviation Security Quality Control Program, to which the government has complied. – Sandy Araneta
