200 new cops for CPD

-
Two hundred police recruits have joined the Central Police District (CPD), bringing the police force to 2,428 men.

In a report to Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr., CPD chief Senior Superintendent Napoleon Castro said the new recruits have been deployed to police stations in the city to beef up the city’s undermanned police force, especially during the Christmas season.

Castro reported that CPD officers make no less than 20 daily apprehension of suspects in crimes reported.

"Immediate apprehensions of not lower than 20 are made daily. The crimes and activities like holdup and cell phone snatching continue but we have increased police visibility at night time and early morning," Castro said.

Quezon City has a population of 2.17 million. The police to population ratio is 1:894, still a far cry from the ideal 1:500. – Pia Lee-Brago
