Suspect in shootings, carnapping falls

CEBU, Philippines – A 25-year-old man who was earlier tagged suspect in carnapping and shooting incidents was arrested yesterday morning in Barangay Punta Engaño, Lapu-Lapu City for possession of unlicensed firearm.

Authorities from Mactan Police Station arrested and detained Jimmy Inot, of Sitio Malingin, same barangay.

He will face a string of charges that includes illegal possession of firearm and violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 since he reportedly yielded five small sachets of suspected shabu.

He will also face carnapping raps after the police received reports that the suspect stole a Honda motorcycle in Sitio Sea Breeze, Barangay Mactan hours prior to his arrest.

Before the operation, Police Officer 1 Vince Figuracion said a concerned citizen noticed Inot carrying a firearm, a .38 caliber revolver, and immediately reported to the police.

After the report, a team led by Police Chief Inspector Conrado Manatad went to Sitio Malingin where the suspect was positively identified and eventually arrested.

“Ang motor iyahang gikawat didto sa Sea Breeze alas kuwatro sa kaadlawon. Mianhi ang tag-iya sa motor sa istasyon ganihang buntag ug ni-identify nga iyaha tong motor,” Figuracion said.

Police Officer 3 Lydo Pinos of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Homicide Section also confirmed that Inot was the suspect in the shooting of three persons in separate locations in the city.

The victims were identified as Cesario Augusto, 54, and Arnel Casinillo, 19, both residents of Barangay Mactan who sustained gunshot wounds in their body last June 30. Another victim named Lucris Malingin, 38, a resident of Barangay Bankal who was reportedly wounded in a shooting last July 4.
