Police arrest "swindler"

CEBU, Philippines - Police arrested yesterday a 24 year old-woman for alleged swindling in Poblacion Oriental, Consolacion town.

Stephanie Cabrera resides in barangay Cansojong, Talisay City.

Police said Cabrera approached pharmacy lady sales attendant named Rheane Abayon and told her that the pharmacy owner has instructed her to pick up P2,000 for the purchase of an auto part as her car was at her car shop.

Cabrera borrowed Abayon’s mobile phone and pretended she was talking to Abayon’s employer, a text message was received on Abayon’s mobile phone asking her to give P2,000 to Cabrera.

Abayon wanted to take a look at her employer’s number but Cabrera deleted it immediately.

Just the same, Abayon gave P2,000 to Cabrera.

As this developed, a lady at a nearby store identified Cabrera as the one who swindled her a week ago.

Bystanders held Cabrera while the police were summoned.

A house caretaker living in Lilo-an town positively identified Cabrera as one of two personS who held her up last December 6 while traveling on a jeepney. – (FREEMAN)
