Buri tree falls on 2 houses in barangay Maguikay

CEBU, Philippines - Due to strong winds, a 30-foot tall buri tree fell on two houses Thursday in barangay Maguikay, Mandaue City.

Inocencia Conde, who owns the houses, said she was washing clothes near a deep well at around 2 p.m. when the tree smash onto the roofs of her houses .

She said rooms in the two houses are being rented out to workers who were not home when it happened.

Richard Angcon of the Accident Emergency Rescue Team said that the buri plam was big and that the middle part was rotting.

Barangay Maguikay captain Francis Tan said all old trees in the barangay will soon be cut down.

He said he will write Mayor Jonas Cortes to ask for permission to cut down old trees. -
