5 Indians charged for kidnapping
MANILA, Philippines — Criminal cases have been filed against five Indian nationals who allegedly kidnapped and held for P250,000 in ransom their compatriot in Las Piñas City.
Cases of kidnapping for ransom and serious illegal detention were filed against the suspects before the Department of Justice, police Anti-Kidnapping Group director Brig. Gen. Edwin Balles said yesterday.
Balles said the suspects, whom he did not identify, kidnapped a 24-year-old Indian medical student in Las Piñas on Sept. 3.
Police arrested the suspects and rescued the victim in Barangay Pamplona Tres on Sept. 5.
Police said the suspects initially wanted the victim’s cryptocurrency account.
Fearing the suspects would use his account for illegal activities, the victim refused.
Irked, the suspects held him for ransom for P250,000.
