Boat sinks in Nueva Vizcaya river; 2 dead
BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya , Philippines —– Two elderly people died while four others were injured after a passenger boat sank in a river in this town on Tuesday.
The bodies of Danilo Degamo, 63, former barangay chairman, and Anita Batangas, also a senior citizen, were recovered in Magat River in Barangay Paitan a few hours after the incident.
Reports said six people including boat operators Jeffrey and Mark Anthony, both surnamed Parpados, survived the incident along with Lita Arsadon, Jerwin Batangas, Dario Cabreros and Zoren Casiw.
Four of the survivors were rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment of injuries.
Maj. Anthony Ayungo, Bayombong police chief, said the boat, which was loaded with three tricycles and eight passengers, was crossing the Magat River at around 7 a.m. when it was battered by strong winds.
