President Marcos honors mom Imelda on her 96th birthday

MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos penned a short message for his mother, former first lady Imelda Marcos, who celebrated her 96th birthday yesterday, praising her for her strength, grace and unwavering love.
“We are so grateful for you – now more than ever,” the President said in a post on Facebook.
First Lady Liza Marcos also greeted her mother-in-law, whom she calls “Mama Meldy,” wishing her “endless joy and good health.”
“Your strength and elegance have touched so many lives – especially ours,” Liza wrote in her Facebook account.
Speaker Martin Romualdez paid tribute to the former first lady, describing her as “a visionary who shaped history and inspired generations.”
“Her vision elevated the Philippines onto the global stage,” he said.
Imelda Marcos is out on bail following her conviction on seven counts of corruption.
She was not indicted for plunder because the offense was not yet in the statute books during the Marcos dictatorship. — Jose Rodel Clapano, Delon Porcalla
