MANILA, Philippines — Newly appointed Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) commissioner Hubert Dominic Guevara passed away on Friday. He was 56.

Guevara assumed office as a commissioner of the SEC last March 1, bringing him back to the agency more than a decade after having served as director of the former Compliance and Enforcement Department, or what is now the Enforcement and Investor Protection Department, from 2004 to 2010.

As SEC commissioner, he supervised the Corporate Governance and Finance Department, Office of the General Accountant and Financing and Lending Companies Division of the SEC.

Prior to his return to the SEC, Guevara served as senior deputy executive secretary under the Office of the President.

He earned his law degree from the Ateneo de Manila University, where he also took up his bachelor’s degree in legal management.

Guevara served as the managing partner of the Joaquin Guevara Adarlo & Caoile Law Offices and taught in private learning institutions before joining the SEC in 2004.

“The entire commission joins the family, friends and other colleagues of Atty. Guevara in remembering and honoring his life dedicated to public service and championing great causes,” the SEC said.
