MANILA, Philippines  — Experts are studying if the “additional quarantine period” for recovered patients of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) should be shortened to only seven days, the Department of Health (DOH) said yesterday.

Current health protocols require a quarantine period of 14 days.

But DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said there are findings that COVID patients become “non-infectious” after 10 days of illness.

Because of this, she said the DOH and some experts are studying if the home quarantine period or the amount of time recovered patients are required to stay in their homes can be cut to only one week.

“These findings came out, I think, two weeks ago. It is said that there is evidence showing that patients who have been confirmed positive… are already non-infectious,” Vergeire said.
