MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) has added a dropbox mode of enrollment starting today as it pushes to get more learners to sign up for school year 2020-2021 amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

In a statement, DepEd announced yesterday that dropbox enrollment is open to learners and their parents/guardians apart from the ongoing remote enrollment.

“Moving forward, we will continue to conduct remote enrollment while we will open the dropbox enrollment as provided in the DepEd Order 007, s. 2020. These dropbox/kiosks, which can be found in barangay halls or schools, will be set up only for picking up and dropping off the learner enrollment survey form (LESF),” the department said.

It said the remote enrollment has already drawn over 10 million learners to enroll or register remotely.

“We thank our parents and teachers for supporting our mission of offering learning opportunities amid the COVID-19 pandemic, evident by more than 10 million learners nationwide who registered in the first two weeks of the enrollment period. With this development, we reiterate that we are one with the President in saying that the health of our learners is non-negotiable and no face-to-face classes will be conducted until the safety of all is assured,” the DepEd said.

It added that the LESFs should be dropped off by parents who cannot enroll remotely.

“Dropbox kiosks will only cater to parents who do not have access to remote means (text, call, online and social media) to communicate with their schools but wish to enroll their child,” DepEd said.

“Only one adult from a household with quarantine pass will be allowed to go to these kiosks,” it stressed.

It added that parents and guardians needing assistance are advised to ask their respective barangay leaders on the transaction.

“Parents and guardians must be familiar with the advisory of the school or barangay on designated pick up and submission points before going out,” DepEd said.

The DepEd had already directed its regional offices to manage a safe and smooth process of enrollment.
