Four nabbed in raid on 'floating shabu lab' undergo inquest

The Philippine Star
MANILA, Philippines (Philippines News Agency) -- The Department of Justice on Wednesday conducted inquest proceedings against four Chinese nationals from Hong Kong arrested in a drug raid by the Philippine National Police on a "floating shabu laboratory" off Subic, Zambales.

Facing cases for violation of Sections 8 and 11 of Republic Act No. 9165, or the "Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002" are Shu Fook Leung, Kam Wah Kwok, Win Fai Lo and Kwok Tung Chan.

The suspects were on board a fishing vessel in Subic Bay when they were apprehended by authorities. Police seized half a kilogram of shabu worth P2.5 million during the raid.

During the inquest proceedings, Senior State Prosecutor Juan Pedro Navera examined the passports of the four foreigners and found that one of the accused had already entered the Philippines four times.

Another had been to the Philippines as a tourist twice but his passport did not have a stamp for his first visit.

Since the four accused have waived their rights, Navera said, the case is now submitted for resolution. During inquest proceedings, a prosecutor determines whether someone who is arrested can be charged in court.

After the inquest proceedings, the four were immediately brought back to Camp Crame in Quezon City, where they are being detained.
