LPA brings heavy rains in Mindanao

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Several areas in Mindanao experienced heavy rainfall as the low-pressure area inside the Philippine area of responsibility inched closer to the country yesterday, state weather forecasters said.

The low-pressure area was estimated to be at 630 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur as of 10 a.m. yesterday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA said the weather system is expected to bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas, Caraga and the Davao region.

PAGASA also warned of light to moderate, with occasional heavy rains, in Zamboanga del Sur, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental and Occidental and Compostela Valley.

The rainfall advisory also covered the Davao region, Agusan provinces, Surigao provinces, North Cotabato, Basilan and Maguindanao.

“All are advised to be alert and take precautionary measures on possible occurrence of flashfloods and landslides,” PAGASA said.

Meanwhile, a tail-end of a cold front affected the Bicol region, while the northeast monsoon will affect Northern and Central Luzon.

PAGASA said “moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over the whole archipelago with moderate to rough seas.”
