MANILA, Philippines - Nearly 5,000 applicants for over a thousand vacant positions in the Bureau of Customs (BOC) are scheduled to take the general ability and competency examination in six testing centers all over the country today.

In a statement, the BOC yesterday said the 4,755 applicants would take their tests at the following locations: St. Joseph’s College of Quezon City (E. Rodriguez Ave, Quezon City); St. Theresa’s College (D. Tuazon St., Lourdes, Santa Mesa Heights, Quezon City); Siena College of Quezon City (Del Monte Ave., San Francisco del Monte, Quezon City); Angelicum College (112 M.J. Cuenco St. Bgy Sto. Domingo, Quezon City); St. Theresa’s College of Cebu City (Juana Osmeña St, Cebu City); and the University of Mindanao-Matina Campus (Matina Crossing, Davao City).

The examination will be administered by the Civil Service Commission (CSC).

The examinees include current BOC employees who have applied for promotion and new applicants who are aspiring to fill the 1,056 vacant posts at the bureau’s main office and various collection districts nationwide.

The bureau said that 88 percent of the examinees applied for non-supervisory positions and 12 percent for supervisory or managerial positions. About 75 percent of them are taking the exam in Metro Manila.

The BOC reminded the examinees that they should be at their designated testing center by 7 a.m. or an hour before the examination.

They should bring with them valid identification cards and other pertinent documents, ballpens and pencils.

Second round

Those who would pass the first exam would proceed to the second round of tests, this time focused on specific exams to determine whether the candidate has the right qualifications and if he or she is fit for the position.

Further information is posted in the websites of the BOC (www.customs.gov.ph), the Department of Finance (www.dof.gov.ph), and the Official Gazette (www.gov.ph.) Applicants can also visit the Facebook page of the finance department for updates.
