Moira Dela Torre highlights value of giving credit following viral copyright issue
MANILA, Philippines — Moira Dela Torre weighed in on the viral copyright issue and said that it is important to give credit where credit is due.
The singer talked to the press including Philstar.com at the blue carpet of the inaugural Billboard Philippines Women in Music held last March 22 in SM Aura Premier in Taguig City.
Moira was asked what her thoughts are on the recent much-talked about copyright infringement issue and advice to aspiring singers who wish to pursue a career in the music industry.
“Well, I always believed that we all come from some kind of influence. I definitely have a lot of influences and my music came from that. But I also believe in giving credit when it’s due,” said Moira.
Giving credit to the songwriter or singer, for Moira, is akin to giving honor to them for their hardwork. She said that these composers or artists deserve that honor.
“I also believe that you give honor to the people that deserve it. It’s just what’s right. We just have to do what’s right and to credit the people that need to be credited,” she added.
Moira noted how not all people are educated on the issue. She even said that she has a lot to learn even if she is already part of the industry.
“Marami po kasing hindi educated sa copyright. Pati ako, kahit nag-Music Production ako in college and nandito ako sa industriya, ang dami ko pa rin natututunan as I grow on this path. So how much more sa mga nagsisimula pa lang?” she said.
“I think my advice for people who want to [be in] this industry is to just be always willing to listen and willing to learn. And to always give credit,” Moira ended.
Moira was awarded the Hitmaker award at the first Women in Music awards. Apart from her, the honorees include Regine Velasquez-Alcasid (Powerhouse), Sarah Geronimo (Woman of the Year), Morissette (People's Choice), Ena Mori (Rule Breaker), Belle Mariano (Listeners' Choice for "Bugambilya"), P-pop girl group Bini (Rising Stars) and Pilita Corrales (Icon).
