MANILA, Philippines — It has been heartbreak after heartbreak for Alex Eala the previous month.

The Filipina tennis ace is aiming to break out of her slump as she takes on Diane Parry in the opening round of the Ningbo Open in China.

Eala, ranked 19th in the world, will try to get back to her bearings against the World No. 32 French tennister.

Following a deep run in the US Open last month, Eala has had difficulties in her next campaigns.

In the Singapore Tennis Open, she fell against Tatiana Prozorova in the first round in a stunning three-setter.

She then entered the Asian Games as the favorite to win the gold medal, but she bowed in the semifinal round against China’s Wang Xiyu in another three-set defeat.

Licking her wounds, she went into the Wuhan Open in hopes of returning to her dominant, fear-striking form.

But she fell against China’s Shi Han in three sets.

The WTA 500 tournament will have Elena Rybakina, Iga Swiatek, Marta Kostyuk and Iva Jovic as the top four seeds.

The winner between Eala and Parry will take on either Diana Shnaider or a qualifier.
