Beauty Gonzalez grateful for chance to showcase Bisaya roots in GMA show
Beauty Gonzalez successfully shows another facet of a strong Pinay woman, who is loving and protective of her hearth and home — and definitely of her husband — in the GMA 7 weekend action-comedy Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis. The actress was allowed to put a dash of Bisaya on her character Gloria by having some of the latter’s lines delivered in Beauty’s dialect.

Beauty Gonzalez is a delight to watch as Gloria, the loving and at times jealous wife of policeman Major Bartolome “Tolome” Reynaldo, portrayed by Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., in the GMA 7 action-comedy series Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis. The latter’s finale episode airs tomorrow at 7:50 p.m.

The actress captures that another facet of a strong Pinay woman, who is protective of her hearth and home — and definitely of her husband.

“I’m very happy with the show because I get to show my comedy side, yung nakakatawa (the funny side of me), kasi lagi na lang yung inaapi (my previous characters have always been helpless),” said Beauty about her show and character Gloria during a recent virtual interview with The STAR.

“Well, pag-kaintindi ko sa character ko, kay Gloria ano lang talaga siya, yung pagka-selosa niya kay Tolome ay yung pa-cute lang sa kanya (From the way I have understood my character, her being somewhat prone to jealousy is Gloria’s way to endear herself to him or to make herself look adorable),” shared Beauty. “Hindi naman siya totoong like nagger, na paulit-ulit na alam mo yung nakakarindi na selos.”

“For her, she is just being truthful of herself that when she sees something wrong, she will really express it or herself and maybe that’s what works for the relationship of (the husband-and-wife characters). They’re really expressive and they accept whatever flaws the other partner has. For me, pa-cute lang yun for Gloria,” continued she. That side of Gloria adds to her charming and unique personality, making Tolome loyal to her.

In reel or real life, having those cute arguments between partners, in some way, nurtures the relationship and keeps it resilient. However, both parties should know how to manage their jealousy.

“Pero siyempre ‘wag masyadong ganun kasi ‘pag sobrang ganun nasasakal, maghahanap ng paraan (But of course, one should not be overly jealous. If that’s the case, one’s partner might get overwhelmed and find another way to be with someone else),” said Beauty. “Kailangan tama lang, konting sigaw na sindak para alam niya na, ‘OK, tama na’ (Just the right amount of jealousy and calling him out that sends the message, ‘Alright and that’s enough’).”

On being tapped to play a familiar role in an iconic movie, Beauty shared that her portrayal was inspired by the character originated by veteran actress, Rep. Lani Mercado, the wife of Sen. Bong.

“I tweaked it and added flavor, the Bisaya factor, to it because I’m proud to be Bisaya, and you know, to talk in my own dialect on TV is nakaka-proud (doing so makes me feel proud) and I was able to inject my being Bisaya from time to time.”

She was also thankful that the series writer and Sen. Bong allowed her to put a dash of Bisaya on her character. This becomes Beauty’s distinct stamp on Gloria. The weekend series was based on the 1994 Sen. Bong and wife Lani movie, Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis, with a follow-up, titled Yes Darling: Walang Matigas na Pulis 2 three years after.

“I’m very thankful to GMA and I’m also thankful to all my (Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis) cast mates because I wouldn’t be as good as I am on TV if not for them, like the energy that they gave me while doing the show,” said she, “and the support that we all (had) for each other. At the end of the day, isa ito sa mga show na umuuwi ako na naka-smile, masaya ako (it’s one of those shows that I go home smiling and happy).”

If things will go as planned, she will also be seen in The Stolen Life with fellow lead stars Gabby Concepcion and Carla Abellana in October.

“It’s very exciting kasi konti lang kaming cast (it only has a few cast members) like eight for the whole series,” said Beauty. “Ang bida naging kontrabida, yung kontrabida naging bida (At certain points in the story, the protagonist becomes antagonist, and the antagonist becomes protagonist). I’m very excited because this is the first time that I’m playing a character, who is really bad. And of course, there’s the Metro Manila Film Festival entry Kampon with Derek Ramsay.”

The third and fourth quarters of 2023 will see Beauty remain visible on the small screen — and on the big screen.

All this is what’s in the pipeline for Beauty after playing Gloria.

“I’m happy that I get to do different stuff all the time,” said she.

As for what viewers can look forward to the season finale of Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis, she shared, “Marami pa kayong aabangan (There is a lot in store for you, guys) and I can’t wait to see the finale or the ending… and there will be more action scenes.”
