Juan Karlos and his hit rocker Buwan did very well with two awards and he certainly dominated the People’s Choice category with three wins. But it is a fact that it was the girls who ruled the 2019 Awit Awards with their major victories.

This is because Pop Princess Sarah Geronimo copped Best Performance and Soundtrack Queen Janine Teñoso got the big Record of the Year prize. And those are aside from bagging other trophies. Best of all though is acoustic stylist Moira dela Torre being proclaimed queen of the night with six wins including the coveted Album of the Year.

It would have been nice if all of the deserving nominees had gone home with trophies after the Awit Awards night held at the New Frontier Theater in Araneta City last Oct. 10. Let us not forget though that this is a competition and there are winners and losers. Everybody should not lose heart but try again in 2020.

Still, it is most heartening to have come across so many exciting recordings during the past year. At a time when the music industry is so volatile that artists and producers are frequently caught by surprise with unexpected developments, it is nice to know that Filipino artists are out there in the forefront and making great music.
