Sharing the gift of dancing

Yugel Losorata - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - G-Force has carved its name by displaying exceptional skills and performing on TV with the biggest performers in the land.

The time has come to extend its gratitude to believers and supporters with the staging of a big-time recital and releasing an instructional DVD.

The recital, called the G-Force Project, happens tonight at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Next month, the special DVD titled Dance with G-Force will be released.

“This is our way of giving back for the blessings and success we’re able to achieve,” said Teacher Georcelle Dapat, artistic director of the popular dance group, and its dance center that has been attracting hundreds of dance enthusiasts in the country.

Students of the dance center’s summer program will be featured in the recital, along with G-Force dancers. Celebrities are likewise expected to be present in the venue to show their support.

Teacher Georcelle is a known choreographer and concert director for some of the biggest names in Philippine showbiz. She is the head choreographer of ABS-CBN’s Sunday variety show ASAP 18.

In the teaser for the instructional DVD, she said, “We are here to share with you the gift of dancing.”

The DVD also features the appearances of Sarah Geronimo, Anne Curtis and KC Concepcion.

When asked to compare the old and modern dance fad coming in and out, she said, “That means we’re evolving and we’re growing with the times. G-Force is about showcasing the steps of the young and fresh. We keep creating and moving with the times.”

Meanwhile, old steps will be recalled in the highly-anticipated ’80s themed series from National Geographic Channel called The 80s: The Time Of Our Lives.

The series documents the influential people, innovations, trends and political landscape of the said era.

“The ’80s was the most impactful decade we had and the fact we still had lots of footage to recall it makes it even more interesting. We’re not so far removed from the ’80s,” said Jude Turcuato of Fox International Channels’ Philippine office.

An ’80s party was recently held for the press and selected bloggers, with local ’80s stars Jojo Alejar, Carmi Martin and Chuckie Dreyfus in attendance. Jojo hosted the gathering and threw some old school punch lines or something he’d rather dubbed “Daddy Jokes.”

“The ’80s was one of the best times to have lived talaga, not just because I grew up with it,” pointed out Chuckie who was then a talent of That’s Entertainment, one of local TV’s top-rated shows at the time.
