Asian Awards for Ifugao

What was initially meant to be ‘another action picture’ gave Premiere three major awards at the 1955 Asian Film Festival in Singapore. Ifugao won Best Director (Gerardo de Leon), Best Actor (Efren Reyes), Best Screenplay (Cirio H. Santiago and Santiago ‘Ding’ M. de Jesus).

Ifugao was shown in Manila theaters in 1954 and competed in Singapore the following year.

Serialized in Hiwaga Komiks, Ifugao tells of the conflict between mountain warriors and the American colonizers during the early years of the US regime.  — RKC
