The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Over P100,000 in cash prize is at stake to the winners of the Motolite Pangmatagalan "Tune-up Race" on June 17 at the Baywalk near Lantaw native restaurant in South Road Properties.

"This is the first time that we're doing this and we're very excited to have this kind of race," said Motolite Visayas sales manager Ruseller C. Cabana during the event's formal launching at Hotel Pier Cuatro. "We also promote social responsibility and this is part of our wellness program."

A total of 12 categories will be contested in the point-to-point race covering approximately 2.5 kilometers per round.

These are the open/elite, seniors (19-29 years old), juniors (18-below), women's A (19-above), women's B (18-below), executive A and B, veterans (30-39), masters (40-49), golden (50-59), kiddies (12-below), and senior citizens.

The biggest chunk of the cash bounty will go to the elite/open champion at P10,000, with the second and third placers getting P7,000 and P5,000, respectively.

Cabana said the result of their maiden venture in road racing that is supported by Sugbo Bikers and the Unified Cycling of Central Philippines (UCCP) will serve as their measuring gauge for their next move.

"The outcome will be our benchmark if we continue this race on a yearly basis or come up with an even bigger event in the future," said Cabana.

Entry fee is pegged at P650 inclusive of a cycling jersey, certificate of participation, snacks and lunch.

One may register at YKK Trading (255-8853), Cycle Logic (238-3513), Dan's Bike Shop (236-9221), Bikecology (236-9221), City Avenue Bikeshop (254-5287), or at Lantaw SRP (513-3928).
