CEPCA Board meeting, monthly tourney this weekend

CEBU, Philippines – The November edition of the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) will take place this Sunday, 2 p.m. at Handuraw Cafe along Gorordo Avenue, Cebu City.

CEPCA sports committee chairman Jun Olis said two qualifiers from each group are needed to complete the 'Magic 12' that will test each other's wits in the grand finals next month.

Among those who already qualified for the so-called 'Battle of Champions' are two-time grand champion Jimmy Ty Jr., Rey Flores, Arnold Cadiz, Peterson Sia, Tony Cabibil, Ross Yamyamin, Amado Olea Jr., Zilverstein Torres, Carlo Maraat, and Jojo Muralla in Group A.

The early finalists in Group B are Regelito Hortelano, Ruel Hortelano, Elmer Odango, Jojo Paredes, Jun Kidlat, current club president Jerry Maratas, Jessa Balbona, Edwin Cablao, Romy Pialan, and Michael Ventulan.

Meanwhile, Olis said CEPCA will be having a special Board meeting this Saturday at Chika-an Restaurant in Parkmall.

Aside from the the grand finale of their year-round tourney, the group will also discuss about the election of new set of officers, their upcoming Christmas party as well as the creation of a special CEPCA magazine commemorating the club's 25th year anniversary.  (FREEMAN)
