UV bags 3rd place trophy

CEBU, Philippines – The University of the Visayas Green Lancers used a strong second half surge en route to a 62-50 victory over University of San Jose Recoletos Jaguars to claim the third place honor in the 14th season of Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. men's basketball tournament last night at the Cebu Coliseum.

Earlier, top seeds Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagle and University of the Visayas Baby Lancers will face each other in a best-of-three finals showdown in the juniors division after defeating their respective rivals in the semifinals.

Magis Eagle pulled a hard-earned win, 59-52 over the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Baby Panthers, while the Baby Lancers registered a 37 point victory, 80-43 to dispose Cebu Institute of Technology.

Jaguars defended well in the first half as they managed to take a 30-20 advantage towards the end of the first half, but the Lancers responded with a 9-0 run to move within a hairline, 29-30 with the efforts from Jerome Napao and Kent June Manzo.

UV finally grabbed the upper hand, 34-33, in the earlier part of the third canto. From then on, Lancer's lead began to grow as it reach double digits.

Manzo led Lancers with 15 points, while graduating John Michael Abad added 12 markers, while Chris Perolino chipped in 11 points. Mark Labares and James Regalado led Jaguars with their 11 and 10 points, respectively

Meanwhile, Theo Joshua Flores and Orlan Wamar paced Baby Lancers with 24 and 22 markers. Three Baby Wildcats finished with double figures that includes Jeroel Pedrosa and Joshua Manatad with 11 points apiece and Justin Langres scoring 10 points.

Joshua Sinclair  was the leading scorer for the Magis Eagle with 13 points for the Magis Eagle as Joseph Mayol and Janjan Jaboneta added 10 points each. Ain Obenza top scored the Baby Panthers with 24 points. (FREEMAN)
