Kiptanui, Sevilleno-Tutor stamp classes in 1st Phoenix Run

CEBU, Philippines - Kenyan Josphat Kiptanui and Christy Sevilleno-Tutor topped their respective divisions in the 2012 Phoenix Run starting and ending at The Terraces grounds of Ayala Center-Cebu yesterday.

Kiptanui finished the men’s 10K race with the best time of 34 minutes and 16.37 seconds. Bonifacio Monjas placed second with the time of 34:33.24 followed by Douglas Mwiti in 34:34.29.

Sevilleno-Tutor lorded it over in the distaff side with a 43:02.86 clocking. The next two sports were occupied by Madelyn Carter (43:52.06) and Marichu Luterte (45:29.81).

In the men's division of the students 10K, Alrich Pelenio came out the fastest in 1:01.48 followed by Jose Antonio Yu (1:03.44), while the women's bracket was topped by Maria Carmela Quijano (58:40.09) followed by Mary Rose Dakay (1:10.34).

Abraham Missos, another regular Kenyan runner here, ruled the men's 5K after beating compatriot Francis Kakui. Missos clocked in 16:44.29, while Kakui posted 17:12.31. Jorry Ycong wound up third in 17:0.66.

The Andrin sisters Lovely and Jean had a 1-2 finish in the women's 5K, Lynde Cardenas took the third place honors.

In the students 5K, Hans Earl Parel emerged on top among the male runners, while Victoria Vecson won in the female category.

The top finishers in the 3K were Aldren (eight minutes and 46.49 seconds) and Crizel Dionson (10:46.87). - THE FREEMAN
