Arcilla, Tierro off to hot start in Lagman netfest

CEBU, Philippines - Six-time PCA Open men’s champion Johnny Arcilla opened his bid to claim another title before Christmas with back-to-back victories at the start of the 4th Jacob Lagman Master’s Cup yesterday at the Cebu Country Club.

Arcilla trounced Ralph Kevin Barte, 6-3, 6-1, and later on tamed Roel Capangpangan in another lopsided manner, 6-3, 6-1.

On the other hand, the Lagman siblings Jacob and Julian were not as lucky as they fumbled in their respective assignments.

Jacob Lagman, one of Cebu’s top teenage netters whom the tournament is named after, fell prey to Patrick John Tierro, 3-6, 0-6, while Julian bowed to Campangan, 6-3,6-1.

Like Arcilla, Tierro also nailed two consecutive wins, the other one was at the expense of Ronard Joven, 6-4, 6-4.

In the other match, Elbert Anasta upended Ralph Kevin Barte, 6-3, 6-2. — (FREEMAN)
