Dreams

FULL POINT - Nimrod NL Quiñones -

Do you want to play in the United Football League?

Do you want to get a chance to play against the best of the country?

If you answer yes to both questions, then head on to the University of San Carlos-Talamban Campus field on Saturday and Sunday for the tryouts of the Queen City United Football Club team.

I got word about the activity yesterday from Glenn Quisido, president of the Cebu Amateur Football Club, which is the mother club of the QCUFC.

The tryouts on Saturday will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday it will be from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.

QCUFC took part in the UFL Cup, but lost all three games owing to the fact that it has only less than a month to prepare for the tournament.

This time, the team hopes to do so much better and the tryouts will be the first step to attain that dream.

There are three more games to go for the Philippines in the football eliminations of the Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia.

After back-to-back loses to Vietnam and Timor Leste, the Philippines will face Laos tomorrow then Myanmar on Sunday and Brunei on Tuesday.

All games will be aired live over Studio 23. The games against Laos and Myanmar will kick off at 4:30 p.m. while that against Brunei will start at 7:30 p.m.

The two loses have made it very difficult for the Philippines to advance, but it is still theoretically possible.

Big wins in the three remaining games would be imperative and we can also hope that Timor Leste and Vietnam would lose their remaining games. Let’s keep dreaming, who knows it might happen.

By the time you read this, there is already a high school champion of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. basketball tournament.

I was hoping to be at the Cebu Coliseum, but I am bound to the desk, which makes me miss my days as a sportswriter and photographer a little more than two decades ago.

I guess, I have already said it here that I am hoping for a win by Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu.

Aside from the fact that my family is part of the school community, it is also proof that big things can be achieved by schools that were not once known as sports super powers in this part of the world.

The school and the parents have invested a lot in developing the athletes and I am sure that in other sporting disciplines, we would also be hearing more success stories of the SHS-AdC athletes.

Dreams can come true, but you have to work hard for it to happen.
