CCTO sets Kalagkalag rerouting
The cemeteries are the Queen City Memorial Park in Barangay Mabolo, Carreta Cemetery, Calamba Public Cemetery, Doña Pepang Cemetery in Barangay Tejero, Cebu Memorial Park (Cempark) in Barangay Banilad, and the Talamban Public Cemetery.

CEBU, Philippines — Cebuanos going to cemeteries in Cebu City should expect rerouting of public transports.

This was revealed by Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) Assistant Operations Head Junald Bautista during the "Traffic Hour" teleradyo program aired over the City's social media platform Sugbuanon Channel.

Bautista said that is part of the City's traffic plan for the observance of this year's "Kalag-kalag," which they are releasing ahead of time for Cebuanos to be able to map out their itinerary in advance.

“Giandam gyud nato na atong traffic plan para hapsay ang atong pagbisita sa atong mga mahal sa kinabuhi nga nitaliwan na,” Bautista said.

He also said that A. Soriano Avenue, where the Queen City Memorial Park is located, will not be closed off, but trucks and passenger vehicles, like public utility jeepneys and buses, will be rerouted to other streets.

Instead of A. Soriano Ave., passenger vehicles traveling from SM City Cebu to downtown Cebu City must turn left to 2nd Street then to J. De Vera Street before proceeding to their destination.

Bautista said Benedicto St. is also off limits to passenger vehicles starting on Nov. 1, which is why passenger vehicles should instead proceed to Gen. Maxilom Ave. or to J. De Vera Street.

Gen. Maxilom Ave. Extn., on the other hand, will also be closed to all passenger vehicles and trucks, while only passenger vehicles plying the Mabolo route would be allowed to pass by Carreta Cemetery.

Bautista also said that while passenger vehicles going to Gorordo Ave. can still use Gen. Maxilom Ave., those coming from Gorordo Ave. going south should exit to Echavez St.

Also, no parking is allowed on both lanes of Gen. Maxilom Ave., particularly where Carreta Cemetery is located, while the designated parking areas for private vehicles are at the old Sacred Heart School for Boys campus and at Cebu Business Park.

Over at Doña Pepang Cemetery, only emergency vehicles are allowed to park along the roadway leading to the graveyard.  Those driving from New Imus Road are prohibited from entering M.J. Cuenco Extn., which leads to the cemetery.

J. Panis St., and parts of M.J. Cuenco Ave. and  will also be closed off starting Nov. 1 to accommodate those going to Cempark.

Meanwhile, passenger vehicles crossing Gov. M. Cuenco Ave. are prohibited from entering J. Panes St. and vehicles are prohibited from parking there.

The City's PIO, however, reported that Cempark administrators vowed to allocate a parking area for visitors.

For Talamban Public Cemetery, a portion of Miñoza Street would be closed off and all vehicles would be rerouted to the road leading to Highway 11 Learning Center. They would then exit to Gov. M. Cuenco Ave.

At Calamba Cemetery, a portion of V. Rama Ave. would be closed off and no vehicles would be allowed to park at both sides of the road, especially in front of the cemetery.

Vehicles, electric bicycles, and tartanillas, coming from Lucio Lopez Drive are also prohibited from turning left to V. Rama Ave. but they can turn right towards N. Bacalso Ave.

Bautista also said that parking spaces for private vehicles will be provided outside the cemeteries. — (FREEMAN)
