CEBU, Philippines — A man was arrested after he allegedly stole a black Honda Click 125 in Minglanilla, Cebu yesterday.

The suspect was identified as Barkley Labrador Caparida, 25, a resident of sitio Lagang, Bolinawan, Carcar City.

Caparida allegedly robbed a certain Sheena May Paquilit Villamora, 32, a resident of Brgy. Talaytay, Argao, Cebu.

According to Villamora, she was riding a bus from Cebu City and got off at around 11:00 in the evening Thursday in a gas station along the national highway in Barangay Langtad, Argao where she left and parked her black Honda Click 125 motorcycle.

Villamora then drove her motorcycle on the road but a man later on identified as Caparida, who was riding a Honda Wave motorcycle wearing a helmet and black jacket, approached and pointed a toy gun at her.

Villamora hit Caparida and both of them fell on the road. Caparida got up and took away Villamora’s motorcycle leaving his vehicle at the crime scene.

The Argao Police Station was then alerted with the incident prompting them to conduct a hot pursuit operation while also contacting other neighboring police stations in collaboration for a dragnet operation.

Hours after, the Naga City police were also alerted following a robbery incident at around 2:00 a.m. Friday.

A certain Mary Jane Repollo Tapao, 23, a resident of Barangay Tuyan, Naga City reported to the police station after her cellphone was robbed by a man riding a motorcycle who pointed a fake gun while walking on the road.

“Give me your cell phone,” Tapao quoted the man as saying, prompting her to surrender her cellphone.

The robber sped his motorcycle towards Minglanilla town while he was chased by a policeman.

The man reportedly asked for help from the residents of Santo Niño, Tungkil in Minglanilla saying that a policeman chased him.

A policeman named Police Corporal Leonard Garrett E. Gako, 31, of Mandaue City Intelligence Unit, was in the area at that time prompting him to interrogate the man.

Suspicious about the responses of the man, Gako asked for the documents of the motorcycle but the man failed to produce any, prompting Gako to bring the suspect to the Minglanilla Police Station.

When they reached the Minglanilla PS, there they learned about the ‘motornap’ incident in Argao of which motorcycle matched with the description.

The desk officer of Minglanilla PS then contacted the Argao police to inform of a man being held who later on was identified as Caparida.

At around 4:00 a.m. Friday, the Argao police personnel arrested Caparida and put into police custody pending the filing of appropriate charges. — UV Intern/GMR
