Cash assistance given to disadvantaged families

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Senator Imee Marcos, who visited Cebu yesterday, has encouraged the beneficiaries of the financial assistance to remain strong despite life’s difficulties.

“Mas maraming solusyon kaysa sa problema,” said the presidential sister in her speech at the distribution of financial assistance in Minglanilla Sports Complex and Naga City Sports Complex yesterday.

In Minglanilla, a total of 1,000 beneficiaries received P3,000 each while the 1,500 beneficiaries in the City of Naga received P2,000 each.

The 96 fire victims of Talisay City likewise received P5,000 each.

The beneficiaries, who belong to the informal sector and other poor, marginalized, vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals or families, were identified by the Department of Social Welfare and Development-7 under their Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.

Aside from leading the distribution of the financial assistance, the senator also distributed Nutribun to over 1,000 daycare pupils of Minglanilla and City of Naga.

Both Minglanilla Mayor Rajiv Enad and City of Naga Mayor Vladimir Chiong (whose message was read by his Vice Mayor Virgilio Chiong) expressed their gratitude to Marcos for the financial assistance downloaded from her office to the DSWD as this would mean a lot to their respective constituents.

AICS serves as a stop-gap mechanism or social safety net to support the recovery of individuals and families from an unexpected crisis.

Under AICS, the DSWD provides medical, burial, educational, transportation, food and other cash assistance to persons or families in crisis situations. — GAN (FREEMAN)
