CCYDC asks youth groups to register, participate

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Various youth organizations were called by the Cebu City Youth Development Commission (CCYDC) to apply for accreditation with them and the National Youth Commission (NYC) in order to speed up the process of assistance and the groups’ other needs.

CCYDC Head Paolo Saberon, in an interview with The FREEMAN, said that it is very important that the organizations are registered for better communication, linkages and be part of the consultations.

CCYDC regularly conducts consultations on some of the programs that they will develop.

"Kun duna ta'y koneksyon sa nagkadaiyang youth organizations, mahimong paspas pud ang atong communication nila sa nagkadaiyang projects," Saberon said.

Currently, there are 54 youth organizations in the city that have registered with CCYDC.

Among those that registered are campus-based organizations, out-of-school-youth, groups of persons with disability (PWD), LGBT youth organizations, civic professionals, and faith-based organizations, among others.

Some of the individuals may also be youth sectoral representatives in the local youth development council.

CCYDC encourages youth groups to participate in various activities that can benefit the community including tree planting, team building, and cleanup drives.

They are also doing relief operations for those affected by the calamity, may it be man-made or natural.

These groups are also helping each other in forming local youth development plans for the years to come.

Under the SK Reform Law, each local government unit is ordered to set up a local youth development council.

Saberon said that Mayor Michael Rama is very supportive of the programs for the youth and that they are encouraging more youth groups to grab these opportunities for their own growth and development. — Sanden J. Anadia, GAN (FREEMAN)
