South terminal to reopen soon

Jessa Mae H. Miranda - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — After being closed for more than four months, the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) will resume regular operations soon, now that movement restrictions in Cebu have been eased.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, in a press conference in Barili town last August 2, said that although there is no identified date yet as to when exactly the terminal caters again to travelers, the facility is being prepared for its expected reopening.

Garcia, who was in Barili to lead the opening of the all-terrain vehicle adventure, made the remarks a few days after Cebu City, where the terminal is located, was downgraded to general community quarantine until August 15.

The governor, however, assured that careful planning will be made for the planned comeback of the terminal’s operations.

“We will revert it but we have to plan very carefully,” Garcia said.

For the past few months, CSBT, located along Natalio Bacalso Avenue, has been utilized as a “bagsakan center” of vegetables and other produce from the different towns in Cebu.

With the anticipated reopening of the terminal, Capitol is eyeing suitable areas wherein it can transfer the bagsakan center.

“Our bagsakan will need to be transferred,” said Garcia.

When Cebu province transitioned to GCQ last May 16, the Capitol transferred the terminal to its temporary spot at the Cebu South Coastal Road (CSCR) in Talisay City.

Meanwhile, border control along South Road Properties (SRP) will remain as the main entry to Cebu City from the province, while Bulacao entrance-exit road will still remain closed. — KQD (FREEMAN)
