Gwen to dance in Sinulog 2020

CEBU, Philippines —  Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia will once again grace the Sinulog stage, now along with Siloy sa Alcoy Festival dancers.

Garcia, in an interview with Capitol reporters, confirmed that she will once again be offering a dance performance to the Sto. Niño in the Sinulog Festival.

Earlier, Garcia would regularly participate in one of the festival dances during the Sinulog.

Among the festivals she has danced to include the Haladaya Festival of Daanbantayan town (2006), the Palawod Festival of Daanbantayan (2008), the Tostado Festival of Santander (2009), the Ani-anihan Festival of Tabuelan (2010), the Bonga Festival of Sibonga (2011), the La Torta Festival of Argao (2012) and the Rosquillos Festival of Liloan (2013).

This year, Garcia has chosen to dance under the Siloy Festival of Alcoy.

She said the festival dance was a crowd favorite during last year’s revival of her pet project Pasigarbo sa Sugbo, the “festival of festivals.”

Garcia has commended the Siloy dancers for placing fourth in the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo, despite hailing from a relatively small town and the meager budget they had to work with.

“Wa pa raba nako masultii gyud ang lungsod but I am thinking of Alcoy, ang Siloy Festival.  First of all, nindot man gyud kaayo nang Siloy festival kay tungod sa mga bata nga mo-participate,” she said.

Later in the interview, she updated that the Municipality of Alcoy has already given her the go signal.

She also said that the Siloy dancers will not be part of the roster of contenders for Sinulog.

“That would give me the chance to choose them kay ang uban natong mga nindot sad na festivals kay moapil man,” she added.

This will be Garcia’s first time in the Sinulog stage after six years of hiatus.  GAN (FREEMAN)
