CSC-7 warns government workers vs playing Pokémon Go in offices

May B. Miasco - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Acknowledging the popularity of the game, the Civil Service Commission-7 is calling on government employees to refrain from playing Pokémon Go during office hours.

"It's a public knowledge that most of the individuals are already into that game. CSC is proactively initiating the reminders to our government employees," said CSC-7 chief personnel specialist Prolaine Daclan.

Daclan said their national office will be writing the game developer for the removal of Pokemons (Pocket monsters), PokeStops, and PokeGymns from government offices.

The regional office for now is warning government employees against playing the game during official work hours.

"It may tempt the government employees to play the game during office hours," she said.

She stressed that office hours should be devoted to providing continuous and quality public service as in the first place, government official time is paid for by the public.

So far, Daclan said they have not yet received any complaints about a government employee caught playing the virtual game during office hours.

Instead of playing the game, CSC-7 director Editha Luzano also advised government employees to rather be efficient in their job by devoting their time to their respective functions.

"Public service is the only essence of our existence," said Luzano.

CSC-7 is spearheading the celebration of the 116th Philippine Service this September which carries the theme, "Sigaw ng Lingkod Bayani: Malasakit Para sa Taumbayan, Kapwa Kawani, at Kalikasan."

One of the activities lined up for this year's anniversary is a fun run aimed at raising funds for the Pundong Pamana ng Lingkod Bayan (PPLB), benefitting families of civil servants who died in the line of duty.

This will be held tomorrow, September 3, at the Central Command headquarters in Barangay Apas, Cebu City.  (FREEMAN)
