‘Jealousy’ drives woman to kill self

CEBU, Philippines - A 49-year-old wife of a barangay councilman allegedly committed suicide due to jealousy since she suspected that her husband was having an illicit affair.

The wife of a barangay councilman of Punod, Pinamungajan, was found by her daughter hanging inside her room with a rope made out of nylon tied around her neck.

The Freeman is withholding the names of the couple due to the sensitivity of the case.

Police Officer 2 Ariel Taguiam, desk officer of Pinamungajan Police Station, said that prior to the incident, the couple had a hea-ted argument around 3 p.m.

Taguiam said that according to the couple’s daughter, the woman suspected that her husband was having an affair.

After the confrontation, the husband left to attend the barangay session while the daughter went to the Pinamungajan Public Market to buy food, leaving the woman alone in the house.

At around 5 p.m., the daughter went home and was shocked to see her mother already hanging inside her room, lifeless. 

The daughter immediately asked assistance from their neighbors, who then rushed her mother to the Pinamungajan Medical Center where she was declared dead on arrival. The police advised an autopsy to determine the possibility of foul play.  (FREEMAN)
