Labella asks ABC to locate tourist spots in the city
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella is urging the Association of Barangay Council to inspect possible tourist attractions in the city, especially in mountain barangays.
“Naa sa local government code that one of the taxing powers of a barangay is to provide infrastructure for recreational activity. Usa pod kay income generating for the barangay, and makahatag pod og livelihood sa taga diri,” said Labella, who visited Kabang Falls in Barangay Budlaan recently in line with tourism development efforts of the city government.
“Para sad ang mga barangays will be self-sufficient, duna silay source of income rather than just being dependent,” he said.
Norman Borres, 29, of Budlaan Proper said that for extra income, he sometimes guides the tourists to Kabang falls wherein he gets around P200 to P800. “Sa usa ka buwan, mga duha hangtod tulo siguro,” he said.
Meanwhile, ABC President Philip Zafra said that even before Labella issued the memorandum urging the barangay leaders to have an “inventory” of the possible tourist destinations in the city, the council has been going to the mountain barangays, too, for tourism development purposes.
“So far, sa among informal visits sa mga barangays, willing kaayo atong mga barangay officials mo-participate para sa development sa ilang area labi na maka-generate og income sa ilang residents,” he said.
Zafra said that they have found caves and waterfalls in barangays Adlaon, Busay, Budlaan, Tabonan, Sapangdaku, among others.
“Naa napod mi’y mga initial discussions with the barangay officials para ma-ensure pod ang safety ug convenience sa mga tourists didto,” he said, adding that it should be regulated to prevent accidents. (FREEMAN)
