For Yolanda rehab: Cebu LGUs, DSWD get motorcycles

Jessa Agua - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Four local government units in Cebu damaged by super typhoon Yolanda and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-7 received a motorcycle each from Kawasaki Motors Philippines Corporation (KMPC) for their rehabilitation efforts.

KMPC Chairman and President Jin Inoue personally handed a motorcycle to Medellin Mayor Ricky Ramirez yesterday. Bogo City and Bantayan and Daanbantayan towns will receive one unit each.

Kawasaki donated three KLX150 and two other CT100 models.

DSWD-7 Assistant Regional Director for Administration Marcial Fernandez facilitated the turnover of the motorcycles and the certificates of donation.

Aside from Cebu, KMPC also donated units to other areas in the Visayas affected by the typhoon, including Roxas City, Iloilo City and Tacloban City.

The company gave out a total of 20 motorcycles.

Kawasaki joins the long list of organizations and countries that have lent a helping hand to those affected by the devastating typhoon.

Early this month, Algeria donated 6,400 metric tons of rice.

Ambassador Abdelmalek Bouheddou of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria personally led the turnover at the Cebu International Port last January 4 where an initial 780 metric tons of rice were shipped.

The donated rice was received by DSWD-7, the consignee of the donation.

The donation, estimated to cost $3 million, was ordered by Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

The Algerian government specifically instructed DSWD that the rice must be used solely for Yolanda survivors.

DSWD is the main agency in the relief operations of the Philippine government. –/JMO (FREEMAN)
