Binghay hopes LP won’t get 12-0

CEBU, Philippines - A Church official hopes that the Liberal Party will not get a 12-0 result in the elections next month.

Monsignor Esteban Binghay, the Episcopal vicar of the Archdiocese of Cebu, said he fears that if  all LP senatorial candidates will win in the elections, they will use their power to pass legislations that are against the Church like divorce and same sex marriage.

Binghay said if opposition candidates will make it to the top 12, at least there will be check and balance in the Senate.

President Benigno Aquino III was in Cebu with LP senatorial candidates to attend the local campaign rallies in Toledo City, Bogo City and Cebu City.

Binghay added he feared that Aquino and his senators will use their power to step on the rights of others.

Binghay supports the initiative of lay leaders in giving support to candidates that they believe are pro-life advocates.

The Lay Initiatives for Election (LIFE) 2013 earlier revealed that they will be supporting senatorial candidates Milagros “Mitos” Magsaysay, Gregorio Honasan III, Antonio Trillanes IV, Aquilino Pimentel III, Joseph Victor Ejercito, Nancy Binay, Cynthia Villar, Richard Gordon, Juan Miguel Zubiri, John Carlos “JC” de Los Reyes, Marwil Llasos and Christian Señeres.

For congress, the group endorsed the candidacy of Gerald Anthony Gullas Jr. for the first district, Pablo Garcia for the second district, suspended Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia for the third district, Benhur Salimbangon for fourth district, Joseph “Ace” Durano for the fifth district, Gabriel Luis “Luigi” Quisumbing for the sixth district, Raul del Mar for Cebu City north and Aileen Radaza for the seventh district. —/MBG (FREEMAN)
