Coastal law enforcement training in Malapascua, Daanbantayan

CEBU, Philippines - A coastal law enforcement training will be conducted within the month in Malaspascua Island in Daanbantayan, one of the best diving spots in Cebu.

Anna Oposa, the chief mermaid of Save Philippine Seas, said that they will be training the teachers and the residents in the area on the different strategies how to preserve the ecosystem.

“We will be teaching and training the teachers in the place so that they will be the one who will also impart what they will learn to their respective students and pupils in their schools,” Oposa said.

Save Philippine Seas is a non-government organization actively involved in coastal and marine protection.

Oposa also said that they already discussed with acting governor Agnes Magpale the possible exploration in Malapascua and they will be orienting the dive guides and think of sustainable diving practices.

Oposa has been hailed as a champion of environmental rights and is one of the ambassadors of the Greeneration Summit organized by the Climate Change Commission.

The summit aims to empower the youth on the issue of climate change.

During the summit, youth leaders will be encouraged by the Commission to come up with their own climate change action plan and programs.

The commission also introduced the Greeneration Ambassadors, which include Oposa, Bianca Gonzalez and San Vicente, Palawan Mayor Carmela Alvarez, during the event yesterday. The Greeneration Ambassadors will help the agency in reaching the youth and advocating greater youth involvement towards resiliency.

Aside from the Coastal Law enforcement training, Oposa is currently working with the commission for its eco-town site in San Vicente, Palawan.  (FREEMAN)
