CEBU, Philippines - A canvasser of a shipping firm was injured after he was shot by an unidentified assailant while he was about to go to work early morning yesterday in Barangay Tuburan Sur, Danao City.

Ramil Batican, 29, married and a canvasser of Jomalia Shipping Lines, sustained two gunshot wounds in his left leg and left thigh after he was shot by a motorcycle-in-tandem around 4:45a.m.

Batican was rushed to the Danao Provincial Hospital and was later referred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City for medical attention.

PO2 Marlon Remollo, homicide investigator, said Batican just went out of his house when he was shot by the back rider using a firearm with an undetermined caliber.

Three bursts of gunfire rang out but Batican was only hit twice.

Remollo said they are still conducting an investigation to determine the motive and to identify the assailants.

Meanwhile, Consolacion police are yet to determine those involved in a shootout last Sunday at around 9:45 in the evening in Barangay Pulpogan, Consolacion.

The assailants were reportedly onboard on separate Honda Wave motorcycles bearing plate numbers IR6202 and OT6055.

Chief Insp. Marlon Gumabao, Consolacion police chief, said they are still checking hospitals to determine if the suspects may have been admitted for injuries or if there were casualties.

Prior to the incident, both motorcycles reportedly seemed to be chasing each other from Barangay Danglag towards Barangay Poblacion.

The shootout started when both motorcycles reached Barangay

Pulpogan.

Police immediately responded but assailants fled on foot towards unknown directions.

Authorities recovered five empty shells and one bullet of .45 caliber, seven empty shells and one magazine with three bullets of .45 caliber, a holster, and the two motorcycles. (FREEMAN)
