Dalaguete is 'One Cebu country'

- Marigold Lebumfacil - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines -  Dalaguete Mayor Ronald Allan Cesante yesterday declared his town as “One Cebu country” during the One Cebu Party mass oath-taking ceremony at the sports complex.

Over 2,000 One Cebu supporters gathered to show the town’s support to the party headed by Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

Cesante said the crowd was composed of the 32 barangay captains, 93 percent of all the barangay officials, the chapter presidents and members of the senior citizens and people from the different sectors of the municipality.

He recalled how Gov. Garcia and her father, second district congressman and Deputy Speaker Pablo Garcia, took care of Dalaguete by giving over a hundred million worth of road projects.

“Eversince Noy Pabling Garcia joined politics, Dalaguete has always been his bailiwick. We promise that in the coming 2013 elections, Dalaguete will still be a bailiwick of the Garcias. Dalaguete is creating history as it now becomes One Cebu country,” Cesante in Cebuano during his speech.

Gov. Garcia led the oath-taking.

Rep. Pablo John Garcia, who will be running for governor and former Danao City vice mayor Ramon “Boboy” Durano IV, who will be Pablo John’s running mate, also attended the event.

Pablo John said it was his second time to be in the town’s complex.

The first time was when he accompanied Gov. Gwen in one of her campaign sorties.

“Ako na pod ang gikuyogan sa akong maguwang. History repeats itself. Eight years ago, ako ang nikuyog, ug grabe gyud ang suporta nga inyong gihatag ni Gov. Gwen. Karon ako na pod ang gikuyogan and I hope history repeats itself nga ang Dalaguete na pod ang mohatod naku didto sa Kapitolyo. Dili ko maguol kay tinuod na na base sa giingon pa ni Mayor Cesante nga ang Dalaguete, usa na ka One Cebu country,” Pablo John said.

During the event, Gov. Garcia did not confirm reports that she will not push through with her plan to run for senator. Cesante earlier said that the mayors want Garcia to stay in Cebu.

Garcia said she will be weighing things first before making a decision as she will also be giving due consideration and attention to the sentiments of the mayors.

“Of course I always listen to our mayors, and give them that much attention. The mayors had been my partners in our effort of pushing towards Cebu’s growth and development,” said Garcia. — (FREEMAN)
